We all know that parents are ready to do everything and more when it comes to their kids protection, in order to keep them safe we are ready to put ourselves in danger and don’t even care about it.
A cat mother put herself in a deadly situation to save her little kittens from a burning building.
When firefighters were contacted about the garage fire in Brooklyn they saw the heroic cat mom was carrying her kittens one by one out of the burning building.
She turned back into the flaming building five times to rescue her little babies, after she got them all out she started touching them one by one on their noses to be assured they were alive and fine.
After the heroic gesture, the cat mom now named Scarlett collapsed.
According to an Imgur account the firefighter David Giannelli saw the brave feline saving her kittens.
“Scarlett herself had been severely burned in the process of pulling her kittens from the fire. Her eyes were blistered shut, her ears and paws burned, and her coat highly singed,” the post read.
“The majority of her facial hair had been burnt away. After saving the kittens she was seen to touch each of her kittens with her nose to ensure they were all there and alive, as the blisters on her eyes kept her from being able to see them, and then she collapsed unconscious.”
The firefighters of Brooklyn managed to extinguish the fire and get Scarlett and her little babies medical attention.
Sadly, one of her babies didn’t make it but the others were treated and also found forever homes.
This unique story went viral and attracted media attention, the brave mother even became the subject of several books written about her including “The Bravest Cat” and Scarlett Saves her Family”.
A Brooklyn family adopted the brave mother cat and lived happily with them for 12 years until she passed away in 2008.
The cat even got an award named after her by The North Shore Animal League, that treated Scarlett and her kittens, to honor other heroic animals.
